Our Journey
Words from MasterSounds Founder, Ryan Shaw.
My journey into music began at an early age. Growing up around high-quality sound systems through an engineering family. I became fascinated not just with music itself, but with how it was reproduced. That curiosity quickly turned into an obsession, shaping a lifelong pursuit of great design & immersive sound.
My audio obsession progressed through to DJing globally whilst working in record shops and in our family engineering company. As a DJ immersed in the in the vinyl culture, I spent my days designing and manufacturing products with a host of decorated mechanical engineers, and my evenings & weekends surrounded by records, turntables, and the passionate community that lived and breathed music. Those early years shaped my deep love for sound, but also sparked a curiosity on how I could design and manufacture my own range of audio products that my peers would be proud to own.
That question led to the birth of MasterSounds in 2008, beginning with a single turntable weight. It was a simple object, designed with intent; to improve sound, feel and stability when playing vinyl records. This led to a plethora of ideas, and a journey of discovery and collaboration that exists to this day.
I’m proud to say MasterSounds is recognised for its commitment to sound and craftsmanship. Our analogue DJ mixers have won many awards, our turntables and audio accessories sit in world-class clubs and homes, and our sound systems power venues with detail, clarity, and impact in all corners of the globe.
Yet for me, the philosophy remains unchanged from day one, a deep love of music, respect for sound, and a dedication to creating beautifully designed and manufactured audio products that enhance the experience for DJs, listeners, and true lovers of vinyl culture.
